Abstract :
In order to use multimedia information more flexibly, supplemental reference information which describe the contents of the data need to be more substantially utilized. This kind of information can be generated at different levels of abstractions and with differing reliabilities depending on the method of acquisition (manual/automatic/semi-automatic). For practical applications, it would be extremely useful to have a framework which can integrate and manage these reference information. We are currently developing an XML based framework, VSDL (video stream description language) which can integrate and manage reference information of various media. In this paper, a subset of VSDL-VSDL-RW (real world video stream description language) is proposed, which can potentially be used to develop a variety of different application systems concerning real world information. As an example of its capabilities, we have developed a prototype system based on VSDL-RW, named image-map linking/utilization system (IMLUS) which can automatically associate image sequences with related digital maps
