Abstract :
Summary form only given. In 1986, the MSRB division of the Department of Trade and Industry part-funded a programme, initiated by the British National Committee for NDT (the BNC), and administered by the National NDT Centre (Harwell). The objectives of this programme were to provide assistance and advice to small to medium-sized manufacturing companies in their use of NDT, to identify the scope and nature of any NDT-related problems facing these companies, and to promote the wider use of NDT, in particular during product design and development. The author summarises and discusses the main findings of a final report submitted to the DTI in July 1987. In particular, the testing problems that require further research and development work to resolve, and those problems that relate to the electronics industry are pointed out
