Abstract
The author summarises the progress of the IBM software engineering education programme as it applies to the Hursley Park laboratory. After references to the technical nature of the programme, he outlines some changes and the point of view that there is another aspect of the education that may have a longer-lasting effect. This is the understanding that software engineering is more about people than computers. Three features of software engineering courses which he identifies are; human communications, professional responsibility and development teamwork
