  • Abstract
Discusses how it is evident that the provision of mobile telephony via cellular services has been eminently successful from all points of view. The subscriber has benefitted from wide area coverage, a high quality of service, prices that are among the lowest in the world, and the availability of many advanced services. The network operators are in a position to recover their high initial investment in a reasonable timescale and the service provider and retail structure are already profitable. From the UK point of view, the rate of development of cellular has allowed one to gain expertise which places the UK in pole position to be a formative influence for the 2nd generation Pan European system
