Abstract
The Naval Oceanography Command provides critical air/ocean support to air, surface, and sub-surface forces of the Navy. Support is provided in the disciplines of oceanography, meteorology and mapping, charting, and geodesy through the Command´s worldwide network of centers, facilities, and detachments. Satellites and other remote sensing devices are used to collect data which is then processed by powerful computers, and then disseminated for customer use. The Command has formulated plans to upgrade its satellite data processing and other capabilities to take advantage of emerging breakthroughs in communications and computer technology.
