Abstract :
Attempts, very briefly, to introduce an engineering discipline that is difficult to understand, and yet is of increasing importance. No item of electronic equipment can even be made completely immune to electromagnetic disruption. Electromagnetic compatibility is therefore a balance between the desired technical performance, the economic constraints of achieving that performance in production and operation, and the acceptability of the above constraints to the, generally non-technical, customer. Common causes are interference from local high power radio transmitters, or impulsive noise voltages introduced onto mains cables by electric motors, power electronic devices, or ignition systems
