Abstract
The authors investigate the use of GTO´s in resonant circuit topologies for industrial applications. Details of the design and analysis of typical circuits will be given for the following circuits: (1) a resonant buck type DC/DC converter operating at 60 kHz with an output of 200 W at 60 V; (2) a resonant fly-back DC/DC converter operating at 60 kHz to supply a 5 V, 4 A output; (3) an induction cooling power supply based on a class E type amplifier of 500 W, using a GTO at a nominal frequency of 60 kHz; (4) a high efficiency class E tuned power oscillator operating at 100 W but at frequencies in the megahertz region using an RF power MOSFET. The analysis made use of the circuit simulation package PSPICE and prototype units based on these designs are being constructed. Progress on the evaluation of these prototypes is also discussed
