Abstract :
The decision to license two national networks and a number of regional systems to provide mobile radio services in Band III (174-225 MHz) is a significant event in the development of land mobile radio in the United Kingdom. In addition the technology which is available to the new mobile radio networks in Band III offers the possibility of providing the user with an improved quality of service. In particular, the national networks, which require the establishment of wide-area infrastructures, offer the potential for land mobile radio services to be engineered to standards compatible with international requirements for public telecommunications facilities. This paper describes how the designers of the GEC National One network have achieved a specification which satisfies this criteria
