Abstract
In this paper, a new method for real-time rendering of three-dimensional terrain is proposed. The method combines together several methods such as block data, view-dependent multi-resolution LOD, view frustum culling etc. It exploits a new method to measure the terrain curvature. The new method uses multiple-approach to simplify terrain model and reduce the cost of memory, which can improve efficient terrain rendering. In addition, a terrain rendering system based on this method is implemented, and experiment demonstrates that the method can be fast for rendering terrain and get higher effectiveness.
