CZCS Data Dissemination System for Commercial Application

The present Coastal Zone Color Scanner (CZCS) data processing system for the West Coast Fisheries Demonstration Program represents a prototype for a future national ocean color information network. Design considerations for its successful commercial application are discussed, including the cost and integration of the various components and the relative roles of government and private industry in providing the fisherman with a useful satellite-derived data product. A candidate system is outlined which balances the needs and capabilities of government, private industry and the fishing community.
