Abstract :
Summary form only given. This paper characterizes the penalties due to four-wave mixing (FWM) induced crosstalk (XT) in dense wavelength-division multiplexed (WDM) systems for different numbers of channels. An accurate prediction of FWM penalty, often the limiting penalty in WDM systems, is very important in the design of such systems. Although FWM efficiency has been modeled before, there still is a need to determine the penalties it introduces on a channel.
