  • Abstract
The completion of the unrepeatered optical fibre link between the UK mainland and the Isle of Man in December 1987 denotes an historical achievement in the development of optical fibre technology for underwater telecommunications systems, as the longest of its kind for commercial service. The authors describe the terminals, optical transmitter, and optical receiver involved, and discuss the cables used, and their installation
