Abstract :
The author describes the characteristics of the constituent parts of repeaterless lightwave submarine links. The predicted extension of such links from 130 km in 1988 to 200 km in 1990 is discussed, and the different steps constituting the development planning and aims of SUBMARCOM for 1988 to 1993 are explained
