  • Abstract
The authors describe how the power margin, allocated to allow for system parameter variations and system component ageing, can be reduced if the decision point of the receiver can be steered to maintain optimum signal to noise ratio and minimum bit error rate. Theoretical and experimental results are presented for decision point steering for optical links, and their implications are considered
