Abstract :
The selection and reduction of available data is a necessary feature of any measurement system in order to avoid presenting the end user with an excessive volume of data from which the required information is then to be extracted. The way in which the available data is then interpreted will be determined by the nature of that data together with the purpose for which the measurement was made. In the case of power system harmonic measurements both these factors are of importance, particularly in relation to the operation of currently available microprocessor based harmonic analysers. These use analytic techniques to generate large volumes of data with associated problems of interpretation and of comparison with results obtained from a previous generation of sequential, analogue instruments
