  • Abstract
A magnetron operating at 17 GHz delivers 40 kW pulses into a microwave coupling structure producing a transverse electric field of approximately 106 V/m. Laser action has been observed in a variety of Argon, Helium-Argon and Helium-Krypton gas mixtures. The microwave power absorption efficiency as a function of excitation frequency is considered. Time-resolved spectroscopy is used to monitor the variation of output against gas mixture ratio and pressure, and input power characteristics
