Abstract
The paper presents the transient performance of a Double Output Induction Generator driven by a Horizontal Axis Wind Turbine in standalone mode. The performance of the interconnected system is analyzed for different wind velocity, different load active power demand and different load power factor angle. The induction generator is run under certain criterions so that the total electrical loss in the generator is a minimum. This requires the machine to run at a particular speed for different operating conditions which is attained by the pitch control action of the wind turbine. Another requirement for this minimum loss operation is the optimal distribution of the total reactive power demand which is supplied by one rotor side and another stator side converter. The transient analysis is done in order to ensure satisfactory performance of the interconnected system when the wind velocity, load active power demand and load power factor angle changes. During transients the turbine speed dynamics is kept under control to avoid overstressing of the turbine blades. The validation of the minimum loss algorithm in the interconnected system is also investigated in the paper.
