Abstract
Texas Instruments has developed in conjunction with a major supplier of automotive systems a family of modular 8-bit microcontrollers called TMS370-Application Oriented Controller. It consists of a library of standard modules (such as ROM, RAM, EEPROM, A/D and timers) that can be configured along with customer specific modules to form a unique dedicated single chip microcontroller. A modular development system is available that supports emulation of these configurations and gives full in-circuit emulation and software debug capabilities. The author discusses the design concepts of the TMS370
