Abstract :
Reverse logistics is a process whereby a manufacturer accepts products from consumers for possible remanufacturing, recycling, reuse or disposal. Recovery of used products is receiving increased attention due to growing environmental concerns. Many firms have realized that they lack the expertise, skills, and experience to perform certain functions. In order to ensure efficiency, many organizations outsource their reverse logistics activities by engaging third party logistics providers that implement reverse logistics programs designed to gain value from returned products. This paper articulates a way of using unified modeling language (UML) to develop a reverse logistics information system for third party providers in China. The results show that the UML was useful in the development of third party reverse logistics information system. In summary, this paper can shed light on future research in development of reverse logistics information system.
