Abstract :
A 1.2-Gb/s en/decoder designed in a 1 .2-μm CMOS process for an error-correcting self-orthogonal convolutional code for optical fiber communication is presented. A circuit technique which gives a data rate of twice the clock rate is introduced in the design. The complex and slow decoding operation has been improved by the methods of logic decomposition and pipelining. Satisfactory results are demonstrated by both simulation and experiment
