    The properties of optical waves guided by media with an intensity dependent refractive index has attracted considerable interest, as they are capable of exhibiting a wide range of complex and potentially useful optical phenomenon. Under appropriate conditions the interface can exhibit optical hysteresis and bistability that is of great interest for various optical switching and signal processing applications
