Abstract :
Conversion efficiencies in excess of 10% of 1.064μm radiation to visible 532nm light are obtained in an optical fibre. The design requirements of the optical fibre and optimisation of the optical writing process to produce long gratings with minimum depletion due to competing effects are reported. Defects are excited during the writing process as seen by the ESR and optical absorption spectra
