Abstract :
The principles of operation of brushless drive systems are reviewed by the authors and examples are given of various motor topologies which have been developed. General design considerations, as well as developments in analysis and CAD procedures, are also discussed. In addition applications of brushless motors in various market sectors are considered, and some of the possibilities for the newly emerging grades of permanent magnet materials are highlighted
