Abstract :
The Power Infrastructure Defense System (PIDS) monitors and controls a power system within the following parameters using power systems such as voltage, phasor angle, frequency and power flow which are measured simultaneously. To achieve this, a synchronized phasor measurement based on a GPS (C) is necessary. PMU (Phasor Measurement Unit) measures synchrophasor data and transmits it to a PIDS. For this communication, IEEE PC37.118 defines a communication message format and measurement concept and extended protocol to transmit disturbance data. Synchrophasor data can be sent at various rates and there are several options for phasor information sent in a synchrophasor message. This study simulated a PIDS called iPMS (intelligent Power grid Monitoring System) and analyzed network traffic to suggest an appropriate network topology for PIDS and to estimate a maximum network bandwidth using a network analyzer. In addition, software was developed to simulate communication between the PIDS and PMU to analyze traffic.
