PM DC motors with series field characteristics

Small DC motors are expanding in use on vehicles, in the home, in industry and in the office and the availability of low cost ferrite magnets makes the permanent magnet (PM) motor most attractive. The author shows how many nonreversible applications could benefit from a `series´ characteristic and in most cases can provide a lower cost than the normal PM DC motor
