  • Abstract
It is likely that any group of related human activities will need some form of management programme to see that they are carried through. If the related activities are considered to be a project, then the art of managing the project embraces many skills and often requires knowledge of many disciplines. The information or instructions to be communicated are often complex and, if care is not taken, their complexity prevents them being assimilated. It is here that tools, in the form of schedules, bar charts, networks, etc., are used to convey information. However, before they are used, the project needs to be modelled as a programme. In its simplest form it can be no more than a schedule of sequenced named activities. The more complex projects require more powerful programming tools
