Abstract
In this paper, we demonstrate that the efficiency of diode pumped sub-200 fs slab lasers can be significantly increased by employing the Ng-cut orientation of Yb:KGW and the application of high-power broad-area diodes. Yb:KGW crystal slab is pumped by a single broad area diode which is capable to emit up to 18 W of pump power from a single emitter. The laser oscillator is solitary mode-locked by employing a semiconductor saturable absorber mirror (SESAM).
