Abstract
A power inverter is a dynamic system. Once it is switched on a transient process occurs until the system approaches its steady state mode. In this paper we calculate this transient behavior but also the steady state using the state variables approach. From the continuous-time state equations with periodic input signal we derive a discrete-time dynamical system model which uniquely describes the qualitative behavior of the inverter but is much easier to handle. We demonstrate how transient and steady state modes of the inverter can be analyzed and how the results can be used for the design of the reactive elements.
