Abstract
Summary form only given. We have developed a semi-analytical approach that allows us to calculate the soliton timing jitter for arbitrary pulse shapes in strongly dispersion-managed fibers. The advantage of our approach is that it avoids time-consuming Monte-Carlo simulations. There is nothing in our basic approach that is specific to solitons, and it is our view that this semi-analytical approach will ultimately be of use in studying return to zero and non-return to zero systems.
