Abstract :
The increasing emphasis on corporate networks is resulting in a distribution of communications intelligence from the traditional central office to customer premises. This calls for Signaling System No.7 (SS7) or equivalent signaling in the interexchange carriers and regional Bell operating companies (RBOC) networks as the backbone, and the use of integrated services digital network (ISDN) basic rate interface (BRI) and primary rate interface (PRI) as the access mechanisms for these networks. The authors identify existing and near term capabilities and services that are associated with ISDN and SS7 signaling that should be considered in planning telecommunication networks in developing countries
