Abstract :
A thin ring-slot applicator (0.86 mm OD) inserted into a plastic catheter is considered as a practical applicator for interstitial microwave hyperthermia. First, the structure of the applicator and some experimental results are described. Then, an improved applicator having an open sleeve is shown, along with its experimental results. It is verified that the sleeve has improved the specific absorption rate distribution and made the applicator less sensitive to the insertion depth.<>
