Abstract
The authors apply the equivalent source method to a finite dielectric cylinder and compare numerical with experimental results. The equivalent source method for three-dimensional dielectric scatterers is formulated by distributing multiple equivalent dipole sources in the interior region of a dielectric when the scattering field in the exterior region is considered, and also by distributing them in the exterior region when the field in the interior region is considered. A finite dielectric cylinder which is rotationally symmetric around the z-axis and whose edges along the circumferences on the top and bottom planes are rounded with a variable radius is considered as an example scatterer. Forward and backward scattering cross sections are plotted versus normalized frequency. The results obtained demonstrate the effectiveness of the equivalent source method, especially with respect to numerical accuracy.<>
