Abstract :
The problem of inverting inhomogeneous, continuously varying dielectric profiles using a common radiating source, such as an open-ended waveguide, is studied. The ´measured´ or available data, which are numerically simulated, consist of the self admittance of a waveguide-backed slot or an open-ended waveguide ending in a flange, put in contact with the dielectric medium to be inverted. Here, the basic method is to seek a solution for the direct problem based on discretizing the continuous profile and to approach the inverse problem by using a procedure involving successive refinements of a stratified dielectric model approximating the continuously varying profile. Results obtained are presented.<>
