  • Abstract
International switched digital service, an evolution of domestic switched digital services that should complement existing private line digital services between the USA and other countries is discussed. With the increasing inter-dependency between international communities, there was a perceived need for dial-up and usage-priced digital transport services that are ubiquitous. AT&T, as a service provider, is responding to such a need with the phased introduction of international switched digital service between the USA and other countries. Public switched digital services in general, and international switched digital service in particular, are recognized as a test bed for future international high-speed switched digital services, such as NxDSO specifically 384 kbit/s, and 1536 kbit/s, and thus stimulate and create new opportunities in the USA and other countries. A summary is presented of the feasibility of extending switched digital services to the international community
