Abstract
A description is given of the CHILL (CCITT High Level Language) programming environment developed as a platform for a telecommunications system. The programming environment provides an integrated set of software tools that enable software engineers to produce the reliable and efficient real-time software required by modern digital telecommunication systems. A general overview is presented of the software tools that currently constitute the programming environment, how these software tools relate to each other, how they can be used in the development, maintenance and fast evolution of complex concurrent CHILL programs and how the programming environment exploits current LAN (local area network) and workstation technologies
