Abstract :
Consideration is given to the application of expert system methodologies in real-time process control. The benefits and advantages of separating a controller´s numerical algorithms from its operational heuristic logic are evaluated. In particular, expert system techniques are used where the heuristic logic is implemented as a knowledge base for real-time process control. A simple prototype expert control system is implemented in the authors´ investigations
