Abstract :
The author discusses the progress in thyristor design and technology. The choice of static parameters, such as silicon resistivity and thickness, is discussed as well as dynamic parameters and encapsulation. High power thyristor capabilities are briefly mentioned and future developments in light triggered and GTO thyristors, and transistors are also discussed
