Abstract :
In this paper, we show with 3D FDTD simulations that the affine deformation can be efficiently combined with a waveguide deformation to achieve extremely high quality factors (Q ~ 106) for one DFB mode. A 100 time´s fold increase of the Q factor is achieved between the standard W3 waveguide and the optimised deformed PhC waveguide. We also show that the Q factor is increased solely for one of the 2 DFB modes, thus increasing the modal selectivity of the laser cavity.
