The design of overhead electric lines for improved security

The author describes the background and some aspects of the new design approach which was developed in anticipation of the 1988 Electricity Supply Regulations and used in the preparation of ESI Standard 43-40 `High Voltage Single Circuit Overhead Lines on Wood Poles´. The author demonstrates that to design for improved security at reasonable cost requires careful reconsideration of every aspect of the design process even involving reappraisal of the concepts of the design process itself
