Abstract :
Following the October 1987 hurricane in the UK, a reappraisal of engineering policies indicated that the only significant weakness was in Engineering Recommendation P 2/5 on security of supply, which did not address the problem of small groups of customers who regularly experience several supply interruptions each year. In order to tackle the problem of small Working Party was set up in South Eastern Electricity Board to identify those HV circuits with the worst fault record and suggest remedial measures for as many of them as possible. The results of this work are described by the author and form the basis for a programme starting 1988/89
