Abstract
In this paper an attempt is made to develop a system to monitor and display the online mileage of a vehicle as a remedy to avoid the human interference to perform the mathematical calculation to know the mileage. Also, to forecast the probable distance that can be traveled by the vehicle corresponding to the fuel available in the tank. The designed system consists of two kinds of sensor setup. A set of optical sensors provide the information about the quantity of fuel supplied to the carburetor /pump and proximity sensor measures the distance traveled by the vehicle corresponding to the measured quantity of the fuel. A microcontroller, an integral part of the system accesses the data provided by both the sensors and computes the mileage. This developed system monitors the mileage for the consumption of every known quantity of fuel that helps the driver to utilize the fuel economically. Using this data, the system also forecast the probable distance that can be covered by the wheel resulting to the quantity of the fuel available in the tank. For experimental demonstration purpose, a system is designed, implemented and tested for its performance onapetrol-fueledvehicle.lt is successfully monitored and displayed by the system.
