Abstract
In railway networks, piggyback service allows us to transport trucks by trains. The complexity of this system presents some risks for itself and for its environment. So, this system requires specific and adapted reliability needs. Our aim of this study is to improve the piggyback service system reliability. A design of a safety intelligent automated system, centered on an intelligent piggyback car, makes it possible to meet this goal. Functional analysis proposes how to design this system. In the first part of this paper, we will give a general presentation of piggyback service, reliability and functional analysis. In the second part of this paper, we will show an analysis which is applied to the piggyback service. It´s given in order to obtain a safety operational architecture. Before the conclusion, we will give some results and work prospects.
