Abstract
The authors highlight some difficulties which influence the reliability of overhead primary distribution networks in developing countries. The performance characteristics and reliability of distribution systems in developing countries are constrained by the following factors: limited convertible (hard) currency; a scarcity of experienced and trained personnel in the power engineering sector; climatic conditions; lower energy usage per consumer and a larger proportion of the total load in rural areas; high growth rates; and poor communications
