Abstract :
The paper reports the observation of self-focusing and self-trapping of monochromatic beams in congruent lithium niobate crystals without any external electric-field bias. A continuous wave of 532 nm elliptically-shaped Gaussian beam was launched on the crystal, with a full-width at half-maximum (FWHM) of 30 times770 mum, and through an imaging system and a Vidicon camera, detected the transverse intensity distribution in the xy plane on the crystal output facet.
