Abstract
The restructuring of the UK electricity supply industry has resulted in significant changes in emphasis in the operation and planning of the system, particularly at the distribution level. In order to achieve greater utilisation without unacceptable reductions in levels of reliability, power system planning and control engineers need simulation and analysis tools which provide them with a more accurate assessment of the state of the system under varying conditions. The authors briefly describe a simulation tool developed to help engineers tackle the specific problems which have arisen post-privatisation. The authors compare discrete-time simulation with conventional analysis and then discuss the applications of discrete-time simulation
