Abstract :
The Research and Technology (R&T) division of National Power have developed a software simulation of a power plant based on the ANYDYM model. This model was initially developed by the Generation Development and Construction Division of the former CEGB using a package called Plant Modelling and Simulation Package (PMSP). It is a model of a coal-fired unit and is intended to be used for detailed studies of plant characteristics. The model has recently been converted to run using the Boeing Engineering Analysis Software Package (EASY5). It is intended that the primary use for the model at R&T will be to enable new ideas to be tested in the laboratory before being applied at power stations. The authors discuss the various component modules that have been used to make up the plant model and the control systems surrounding the model. The results of an investigation of an alternative control strategy for a plant subsystem using the model are reported
