Abstract
Although there have been only very small advances in recent years in radiation detectors such as Geiger counters, scintillation counters, semiconductor detectors, etc., this doesn´t mean that there has not been dramatic advances in radiation protection instrumentation. This has been due to the far greater use of microprocessors to manipulate the limited amount of information provided by detectors. This use of processors is spreading throughout the industry and there are few radiation protection instruments under development which do not incorporate microprocessors
