Abstract
A reversible high power converter has been built and tested, to replace a motor generator set in a critical application. The converter has several novel features, particularly unconstrained parallel operation on the AC output, a high power and overload rating from a low voltage battery backed DC rail, high efficiency and low harmonic and RFI emission. The power and control circuit and measures to meet stringent performance, reliability, and environmental targets are described. Test results from operation in a `small´ power system, particularly with direct-on-line starting of large induction motors and instantaneous full load take up are presented
