Abstract
The authors present results which describe the behaviour of radiowave propagation in microcells at 1700 MHz. Specifically, the path loss characteristics for both urban and highway microcells are presented together with the street corner loss characteristics for the former. By fitting the results to a dual slope path loss model, they found that, for urban microcells, the initial slope generally follows a mean gradient of 18 dB per decade, while the second slope follows a mean gradient of 61 dB per decade. They also found that the street corner loss could be adequately modelled by an initial constant attenuation rate of 4 dB/m within the first few metres from the street corner followed by a dual slope model of mean first slope 23 dB per decade and mean second slope 42 dB per decade. Finally, the path loss characteristics for highway microcells generally follows a plane Earth radio-wave propagation model
