Abstract :
There is a strong need for a new Internet Protocol to be used in the future networks rather than the existing Internet protocol (IPv4). So, IPv6 is coming with new features and improvements for the devices that will be connected to the network. Therefore, some transition mechanisms are required during the time of migration from IPv4 to IPv6 networks. Furthermore, the BDMS has been proposed and designed as an IPv4/IPv6 translation mechanism. In this paper, we implement the BDMS in order to study its behavior when different buffer sizes are used. The OMNeT++ simulator is used to evaluate the performance of BDMS using different performance evaluation metrics such as RTT, EED, and Total Queuing Delay for each communication session between IPv4 and IPv6 hosts. Thus, the simulation results in this paper show that, when the translator buffer size increases, the RTT and EED for this communication session increase as well.
